When the Sky Fell
by Rand and Rose Flem-Ath
Front Cover

On Inside Cover of Jacket

Has Atlantis finally been found? When the Sky Fell presents some startling - and convincing - evidence that it has. That, in fact, Antarctica is the lost continent of Atlantis.

Rand and Rose Flem-Ath base their theory on the work of Professor Charles Hapgood, who in the 1950s proposed that the earth underwent an earth crust displacement, a violent upheaval of tidal waves and earth quakes that overturned civilization and shifted the continents into their current positions. Siberia's ice-encapsulated mammoths and the origins of the earliest civilizations are just two of the scientific mysteries traced to a terrible, global catastrophe at about 9600 B.C.: when the sky fell.

With the theory of earth crust displacement, the Flem-Aths examine the clues in a new light. they are helped by ancient maps that show parts of the world, including North America, South America, and ice-free Antarctica, long before they had been drawn by European explorers. The Flem-Aths show that these ancient maps represent earth as it was before the last earth crust displacement, when North America was under ice and a third of Antarctica was ice-free.

By examining the puzzles whose answers have eluded us to this day, the Flem-Aths present evidence that points to an advanced culture wiped out by a geological catastrophe, whose pockets of survivors re-established their lives all over the world.

These puzzles include:

  • The sudden rise of agriculture on different continents following the climatic changes of 9600 B.C.
  • The possible water erosion of the Sphinx.
  • The similarity of ancient myths of natives about the sun, great floods, volcanoes, and earthquakes throughout the world.
  • Plato's sixteen clues as to the location of Atlantis.

With a unique blend of science, mythology, and historical and fictionalized accounts, the Flem-Aths engage readers in a fascinating speculation that Antarctica is the lost continent of Atlantis. They show reason to believe that we are not the first advance civilization to inhabit the world.
